इस मामले पर पेट्रोलियम और प्राकृतिक गैस मंत्रालय ने बुधवार को बयान जारी किया। उसमें कहा गया कि देश में पेट्रोल और डीजल की कमी नहीं है। मंत्रालय ने ये भी माना कि राजस्थान, मध्य प्रदेश और कर्नाटक जैसे कुछ राज्यों में विशिष्ट स्थानों पर पेट्रोल और डीजल की मांग में इजाफा हुआ है। मंत्रालय ने कहा, पेट्रोल-डीजल का उत्पादन मांग में तेजी को पूरा करने के लिए पर्याप्त है। वहीं मांग में बढ़ोतरी का कारण एग्रीकल्चरल एक्टिविटी को बताया गया है। तेल कंपनियों ने डिपो और टर्मिनल्स पर स्टॉक बढ़ाकर इस समस्या से निपटने के लिए कमर कस ली है।
